There is a red warning for extreme heat in place for areas of Lancashire over the next two days. Follow the advice and stay safe. Updates will be here and there is advice from the Met Office below:

Schools across Lancashire have largely continued to stay open, though three schools in Lancashire with the Endeavour Learning Trust have switched to remote learning to ensure the welfare of staff and pupils. Those that have stayed open have largely allowed uniform changes such as switches to PE kits to make the hot weather more easily endured.

The high temperatures will continue though the night, while hospital and ambulance services have been told to make contingency plans to deal with extra demand caused by the heat and Cabinet Office Minister Kit Malthouse warned transport services face “significant disruption”Lancashire will hit as high as 37c over the next two days as parts of the county face a red weather warning for heat never before seen in the UK.

Meanwhile, the rest of the county is subject to an amber warning for heat, previously the most serious issued in the country.London is predicted to be hotter than the Caribbean, the Western Sahara and popular holiday destinations in Europe as temperatures soar. The rise in temperatures has forced the UK Health Security Agency to issue a level 4 heat-health alert – described as an “emergency” – while the Met Office has issued the UK’s first red extreme heat warning, with both running from Monday to Wednesday.
