The shooter who killed 21 people in Uvalde had a troubling history, including violent, graphic threats directed at women and others, according to a Texas House committee report. The committee concluded no one had reported him to authorities as a threat.

A line of school chairs sit outside a store in remembrance of the victims in the Robb Elementary school shooting on June 2, 2022., our daily newsletter that keeps readers up to speed on the most essential Texas news.

He was born in Fargo, North Dakota but moved to Uvalde as a child with his sister and mother, who struggled with a long history of drug use. A former girlfriend interviewed by the FBI said she believed the shooter had been sexually assaulted at an early age by one of the mother’s boyfriends but that the mother didn’t believe him, according to the report.

Beginning in 2018, he was recording more than 100 absences a year, along with failing grades. But the report authors said it was unclear whether a school resource officer ever visited his home. By 2021, when he was 17 years old, he had only completed ninth grade, the report’s authors wrote. Attacking women became a pattern. He was also fired from his job at a Whataburger after a month for threatening a female coworker. And later he was let go of his job at Wendy’s.

But despite all the threats and violent talk, none of his online behavior was reported to law enforcement. It’s unclear whether other users reported his behavior to any social media platform, but the committee concluded it doesn’t appear there were any actions taken to restrict his access or to report him to authorities as a threat.

Umm he also killed 21 people and nothing was done by law enforcement.

'But despite all the threats and violent talk, none of his online behavior was reported to law enforcement.' Who would have been brave enough to call the cops? Would Uvalde PD have listened to any complaints about his behavior? Done anything about him? I doubt it.

Texas is last in mental health treatment. It made it as easy as possible for 18-year-olds to buy assault weapons without a license. It would have been a miracle if a tragedy like this HADN'T happened there! BetoORourke texasdemocrats Lawrence

We can’t just act like white males don’t walk around acting like misogynist pricks, and being cheered on by other white males, to then feign shock that it wasn’t reported. To who? Men just like him? A lot of good that does. See: this society.

Again, the lack of proper funding in TX for education, childhood mental health, and family social work are glaring. Defund the police & put the $ into those who care for and educate children and families, & teach the public to take violent talk seriously.

We should definitely do something about individuals with a troubling history of violent threats on social media. Whoops! There goes the Ultra-MAGA bunch (or 25% of the GOP), red-flagged and disarmed until they can prove themselves competent and not a threat. Good idea?

It wouldn’t have mattered. Until he starts shooting, Texas assumes he’s a good guy with a gun.

Hmm. I wonder what and by who in the culture could have contributed to his hatred of women?

Are we surprised that no one cared about his threats against women? This is Texas, where they don’t even want to perfume abortions to save a life.

Charles Wittman, Oswald, Gettysburg (Little Round Top), Astrodome ( first game), Northrop v. G Dynamics, Rockets, Astros, keep going, fate….endless?

Someone is going to be held criminally responsible for this tragedy.

I seem to recall reading something about the FBI being made aware of 4 8th graders 4-5 years ago who made a pact to shoot up schools in Uvalde their senior year & this guy was one of them. Struggling to find it.

Why didn’t they report him? And then they come on interviews saying they knew all of this all along about him!!!!🤬

Well his gun-owning friends, relatives, and extended family, all probably thought it was normal behavior, since they all have the same programming.

Sounds like somebody trying to clear themselves for creating a completely unregulated Wild West environment for mass shooters to obtain army-grade equipment three years before they can even smoke or drink. By all means let's uncritically publish more of their whitewashing.
