NEW YORK —
An estimated 75,000 journalists worked in newspapers in 2006, and now that’s down to 31,000, Northwestern said. Annual newspaper revenue slipped from $50 billion to $21 billion in the same period.Even though philanthropists and politicians have been paying more attention to the issue, the factors that drove the collapse of the industry’s advertising model haven’t changed.
News “deserts” are growing: The report estimated that some 70 million Americans live in a county with either no local news organization or only one. True “daily” newspapers that are printed and distributed seven days a week are also dwindling; The report said 40 of the largest 100 newspapers in the country publish only-digital versions at least once a week. Inflation is likely to hasten a switch away from printed editions, said Tim Franklin, director of the Medill Local News Initiative.
Printed newspapers are done. The young people never buy or read them, no matter what their editorial viewpoint.
Great news! Hopefully after that we’ll see CNN, MSNBC & Fox follow in their footsteps. It’s all garbage
Speaking of newspapers dying at a pace of two per week, The Chicago Tribune by virtue of its pretend “journalists“ is committing suicide
There are several reasons I’m an ex-Tribune subscriber, their extreme liberal bias and blindness to Chicago’s real issues will cause others to flee.
Well because 95% of print media is far left liberal - one reason - EricZorn rexhuppke stevechapman13 royalpratt with their over the top progressive agenda brought into bankruptcy
Do you people read the responses? You continue to be a mouthpiece for the current administration.
Maybe you should change the people leading the organization. It’s not like you have any competition.
Most papers have brought this on themselves. My street is filled with former Tribune subscribers. Why don't we subscribe anymore? Because this newspaper lost its way and decided to advocate for a political ideology rather than engage in journalism. Sorry. Not interested.
It's a good thing not a bad thing. Wasting trees/paper to disperse two day old news doesn't even make sense. The hard part is making online news profitable. Paying for a paper version with old news didn't bother people but paying for current news online?
Tribune, a propaganda outlet for the DemoRats... cancelled them a long time ago...
Hopefully, the Chicago Tribune will follow suit
Try being fair and balanced.
So what
When you become propaganda shills of the left that will happen. This 40 year subscriber doesn't even recognize what the Trib has become anymore
