'I think the freedom to read a book is the foundation of our democracy. It's under attack today.' Steven Pico took his school to the Supreme Court in the 1980s for pulling 'objectionable' books. This is his message to young people:

In 1976, Pico was a high school student at the Island Trees Union Free School District in Levittown, New York when the school board ordered the removal of several books from the junior high and high school libraries, including "Slaughterhouse-Five" by Kurt Vonnegut and"Best Short Stories of Negro Writers" edited by Langston Hughes.

I actually have much more hope today that these battles are going to be fought and won. I know there are young people out there right now who are forming book clubs, groups where they're going to actually read banned books and decide for themselves. I know there's young people standing up, fighting these attempts at book censorship and that's really encouraging because that did not happen when I was in school.

The Left wants to groom young children with porn literature in schools, but ban Dr Seuss and Huck Finn.

1 Constitutional Republic. 2 Adults should be able to read what’re they want to. However having young children read certain books without parental consent in schools is not ok.

Who knew that democrats were such drama queens?!

There are very few arenas (HowardStern show being 1) where people truly open up & tell you what they think, feel, and believe. Dreams. Regrets. Most of us only get that from literature. It is the people in the books you want to ban that we need to understand the most. Be human.

So NY been a tyrant shithole since the 80's Where's the News here? Am I missing something?

Just because a book exists doesn't mean schools have to carry it.

That entirely depends on what “objectionable” refers to. If it’s refers to over sexualised books with pornography or pedophelia…I 1000% agree that it should be banned, especially in schools.

Soooo you’re still pushing that the United States is a democracy? You know that’s incorrect, right?
