Educators across the country are scrutinizing security plans to see what more they can do to protect students after one of the deadliest school shootings in US history. But experts say these efforts may do little to prevent another such shooting.

The Uvalde, Texas, school district had a safety plan that included its own police force, social media monitoring, and a threat-reporting system to"provide a safe and secure environment" for students. What worked and didn't is part of the investigation into the May 24 shooting at a local elementary school where a teenage gunman gained access to the school and came out of a classroom closet firing an AR15-style rifle.

The world's most powerful nation can't keep schoolkids safe at their desksOne of Texas' largest school districts, Houston ISD, requires all visitors be cleared individually through a doorbell camera by someone inside the building, a policy in place long before the shooting in Uvalde, Dennis Spellman, spokesperson for Houston ISD told CNN. Dallas ISD also has a similar system, which is mirrored by Maryland's largest school district, Montgomery County Public Schools, as well.

We learned years ago what we must do to help protect our children while at school. As time went by, without incident, we drifted away from these proven procedures to save a dollar or just became lax on enforcement. Now what? Limited access, security cameras, and on duty officer.

Common sense Guns Laws on Automatic Weapons of War. Background checks.Don’t sell to people on the Terrorist Watch List. If they can’t get on an Airplane? They shouldn’t be allowed to buy a gun. Put a reasonable Age limit on all Hand Gun Purchases, just like Age limits on Alcohol!

As a Indian i genuinely concerned about gun violence in USA. Most unsafe country for students.

Mass shootings are the top way to go down in a flame of glory. As long as the weapons are easily available, this number in the USA will probably increase. I wish I could be proven wrong

Hey, here's something really easy. BanAssaultWeaponsAGAIN

It may be counterintuitive, but I have heard people propose that schools should be much more open, so that kids can get out of bad situations should they occur.

The incident commander deemed the situation was no longer an active shooter, but a barricaded suspect. 'It was the wrong decision, period,' officials said. This tragedy is NOT because of guns; it is because of Liberal-Progressivists who NORMALIZE rather than TREAT mental illness. We should start to honor those children who’ve served in school war zones, on this Memorial Day. They’re a veterans, unwillingly.
