Department of Basic Education spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, says the department has been looking at expanding their curriculum offering for a while now.

The Department of Basic Education is making plans to review its mathematics, science and technology curriculum as a way of preparing pupils for the future of work.

Subjects that might be included ocean and marine engineering, aerospace engineering, coding and robotics and entrepreneurship to name a few. We find that there are a lot of young people who are saying the curriculum did not give them options to follow their career path, so we needed to be creative and introduce subjects that would be of interest to them.

Mhlanga explains that the subjects will be available from grade seven to nine and will specialise from grade 10 until matric.

Does it come with a 20% pass

When ever I hear that the government 'plans' to do something I know they are just clutching at straws.

Lots of talk but does anyone know what this is ?

OMG! Let's get maths right first... There are vocational schools available. Refurbish those.

Maybe just pass current subjects first

About time

DBE_SA stop trying to reinvent the wheel.. The average pass rate is at despicable levels.. Some schools still take place in open air... And you want to introduce new subjects.. WHO'S MAKING MONEY OUT OF THE NEW SUBJECTS

It supposed to introduced to parents firstly as they will assist with Homeworks and assignments.

Where?😲😲

🤣 When half the students can't even read at a basic level

at 30% pass rate wow

The function of basic education is not to niche children into a field, the objective is to offer them a general education in order for them to function in the world and to prepare them for tertiary education in there field of choice

The Department is forever dreaming. We need farmers, plumbers, electricians, etc. The problem is that there is no planning section at head office. We always condemn Apartheid but in the past we use to have Education Planners who planned.

How about farming

Construction and motor mechanics such must be available too. A school must teach skills, not this nonsense theory.

Oh sorry that comes natural

How about corruption construction

'but not suitably qualified or had not majored in the subjects that they teach, and there was a shortage of advisors for these subjects.' All good and well but to pay them peanuts when they can use those skills in much higher paying Jobs 🤔 Look at them all trying to act 1st world. They can't even replace pit latrines...
