The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Calabar branch has said the body is prepared to remain on strike till 2023 if necessary.

Chairman of ASUU in the University of Calabar, UNICAL, Dr Edor J. Edor, said the body is prepared to remain on strike and hungry until President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government offers something concrete.

“It’s exactly because of our students that we are asking the Federal Government to pay lecturers a living wage and not a slave wage, so that lecturers would b able to research and be in a good state of mind, mental health, so they would be able to teach the students. “If the welfare of the lecturers is compromised, then it will rub off on the students. The ripple effect goes down straight to the students. If the lecturer is not well paid, the student is affected, if the universities are not properly funded, the students are affected, so it’s because of the students that we are on strike.

“This is a political ploy, trick, and gimmick taken too far until concrete action is taken. They have told us this severally before that, ‘suspend and we will do this and that’, several suspensions that we have passed; even the latest one in 2020. What have they done? Nothing.

Ok

Then is becoming obvious that ASSU is proving stubborn because they know this is 2023 elections preparation season therefore they want to capitalise on that, it looks like blackmail, face d negotiations & come to agreement let students go back to school time/money is been wasted

Yes its better to get all your demands and end strike completely, than resume and strike again after one year. Enough of this promise and fail!

A luta continua vitoria e certa.

Simply.

😔 Really

The problem is lack of sense.

Watin be this self

Why federal government no want pay ASUU? Why If only you know billions of Naira Buhari government are looting in the background 😐😐😐

But you're not doing Buhari any damaged, but only to the present and future generations of this country! ASUU_NGN, our intelligentsia should know better!

ASUUStrike pls educate mr president why you all on strike he don't understand all you're doing is like skit to that man to be honest

This kind of ASSU'S joke is very expensive! Please FG should start recruiting new Lecturers

If you think a highest paid Prof at bar (416k/month) asking for a better condition of service is ungrateful and irresponsible, then you don't have a moral compass to criticize this government.

Kudos to ASUU. You guys are really fighting to restore Nigeria educational sector. So much sacrifice there. Posterity will definitely be kind to you all. Your struggles will be appreciated by Nigerians if not now, later. Generations unborn will remember you for good

Irresponsible and ungrateful ASUU!

Lose

We know the tactics it’s no longer a news lectures work in other private sectors so don’t bring hunger to the matter you have nothing to loose

Hmmmm... The fed govt should know they're losing if this strike continues cause you'll still pay these lecturers even though they've done one thing other than lecture which is 'sit at home' EndASUUStrikeNow

What happens to students then?

Omo this is playing oo
