Gov. Greg Abbott is proposing a major change in public education in Texas by advocating...

Viola Mercedes Prado, 9, of San Antonio, stands on a light pole holding up a sign during a rally in front of the state Capitol in Austin, Texas, Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007. Thousands of students, parents and other advocates of school vouchers held a rally to supports a plan that would allow state money for private schools. With one sentence, Gov.

In Texas, schools are funded on a per-student basis based on average attendance. Under the plan Abbott outlined, the money that goes with a student to public school would instead follow the child to a private school, charter school or another public school. Now they are all praising Abbott in hopes that Texas is finally ready to follow other states such as Florida, which has a limited school voucher program. The Texas chapter of the American Federation for Children declared Abbott’s comments a “landmark change.”

Public school advocates are already blasting Abbott’s latest proposal. The Association of Texas Professional Educators made clear it will fight private school vouchers no matter what terminology Abbott uses.

Defund public education and fund Christian madrasas. Public money to fund religious schools.

The march towards the Christofascism they've been dreaming of for decades.

If passed, it will further erode public education in Texas. Rural students (and urban public school students) will not have the necessary resources to succeed. All at the expense of 'vouchers' for upper middle class urban students.

Really bad private schools can pop up with no accountability and receive taxpayer funds. This is NOT a good thing. Private schools don't have to make accommodations for special needs and can take students in and then in a moment's notice, expel them to the depleted public school.

Abbott sets out to rob Texas public schools of more funding to favor private and religious education. It’s unconstitutional. TurnTexasBlue 2022/24

Deplete public education which has accountability and send taxpayer money to private schools with no accountability? BIG NO. For those thinking that will pay for a status private school, it will pay only a fraction, so it will be a coupon for money off for the wealthy.

so my taxes are going to skyrocket to cover the diverted funds. I hate this man.

His rich donors will be pleased

No public dollars for private schools.
