KOSICE, Slovakia — President Biden and the leaders of other Group of Seven nations will meet virtually with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday to discuss ways to support Ukraine and “impose severe costs” on Russia for its invasion, the White House said — as Russia continued attacks in eastern Ukraine and Ukrainian resistance in Mariupol appeared to be fading.
Ukrainian fighters in the Mariupol’s last remaining holdout pledged to fight “as long as we are alive,” telling reporters in a news conference that they refused to surrender as Zelensky appealed for their evacuation after the last civilians werethe Azovstal steel plant. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said early Sunday that Russian forces continue to block the plant’s defenders and are storming the complex with tanks and artillery fire.
