But student journalists are committed to telling the truth in their reporting, no matter the potential consequences. “I think the experience made me a better journalist,” says Thompson. “People are not always going to like the stories you write, but that doesn’t mean you don’t write them."

She continues, "I was confident in our standing in this case because my work was grounded in truth. It is frustrating when things like this happen, but a thriving community needs good journalism.”
