Heather Ryan, who will succeed Scott Banda as CEO of Federated Co-operatives Ltd. next month, credits time spent selling clothes during her university years for shaping her approach to the job.
Oil prices have since shot way back up, and the company recently announced it was buying $264 million in fuel sites from Husky. It has also ramped up plans to explore carbon capture technology as part of a plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 amid what Ryan calls a recently “tumultuous” energy market.

Outside of work, she is the chair of the City Hospital Foundation, which raises funds for new equipment and initiatives at the Saskatoon hospital.
“That’s how our system is very different. We’re not a head office that dictates. We’re a home office that provides support and stewardship for the whole co-operative retailing system. But it’s earned trust,” she said.Article content
