Western Cape MEC ditches cabinet for job in the UK

Premier Alan Winde accepted Schäfer’s resignation on Wednesday. Her last day in office will be May 15.In a joint statement with Winde, Schäfer said she had been in politics for 20 years and believed she had “made a valuable contribution” in all spheres of government where she served. She also said she had left the department in a better place than when she found it.I am now ready to bow out of public life.

“I remain committed to the DA and have no intention of resigning my membership. I also remain of the view that the DA is the only hope to rescue South Africa from the current trajectory, and which can realise the immense potential that we have.”Following Schäfer’s resignation, Winde thanked Schäfer for her dedication, and for being a “strong and tenacious leader”.
