Updated preliminary Anchorage election results posted Thursday show Assembly member John Weddleton losing to challenger Randy Sulte by a greater margin:

Unopened ballot return envelopes are counted after arriving at the Election Center during the regular municipal election on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.

“Being on the Assembly has been absolutely amazing. It’s certainly been challenging with the pandemic and recession and the earthquake and all those things,” Weddleton said. “But we’ve done amazing stuff, and it’s just such a thrill to have been there for it. So I carry that with me and when I look back, I think I did good work.”Other than the South Anchorage race, ballots have broken overwhelmingly in favor of the incumbents in the Anchorage municipal election.

By Thursday, elections officials had counted 54,787 ballots, representing about 23% of registered voters. The latest results included 8,606 additional ballots. Midtown Assembly incumbent Meg Zaletel was besting Kathy Henslee with a nearly 6-point lead and 53% of the vote.
