TRENTON, New Jersey -- Two lawmakers from New Jersey are proposing a bill to prohibit early start times for high schools no earlier than 8:30 a.m. beginning in the 2024-2025 school year and citing concerns over mental health issues heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Senator Vin Gopal, who co-sponsored the bill, said the national picture for child mental health is worsening after two incredibly tough pandemic years to the detriment of students and their educational outcomes. "Sleep is fundamental to students' mental and physical well-being," Gopal said."Ensuring students are getting enough rest is an important first step toward addressing the alarming rise in student mental health issues we're seeing in New Jersey."
It's not the time but rather the environment they are raised in.
So many people here in New Jersey had to get out of bed early for school, and most of us turned out OK. The only thing that needs to change is allowing kids do their homework in school. They go out after school, and vandalize other people property and town property.
I don't agree, these kids need to grow up and get ready for the adulthood
I agree.
