According to the report, the Severna Park High student sent a photo of herself with her face painted to friends back in October. Two days later, the Sun said, the student was pulled out of class and suspended “for wearing blackface.”
The parents also contend in the lawsuit that their daughter actually wore the face paint to a pep rally and to a school spirit day “without issue.” The Sun said the school’s colors are blue and gold, and that the family’s lawyer, while not providing the photo the girl sent with the face paint on, provided the Sun with a photo of the packaging they claim the paint came in. And, the Sun said, that packaging says the paint is gold.
The parents said their daughter was just “messing around” with her makeup when she sent the photo to friends during the weekend. By the time she returned to school on Monday, they said, school administrators had already seen the photo and were moving to suspend her. They claim there was “no racial bias or intent behind the taking of the photo, as it was the color gold,” per the Sun.
