Recipients are chosen by state panels of educators, and they do not know they have been nominated, so the awards are unexpected.
A ninth-year teacher who has taught at Arts High School since 2018, Lagasca, 30, lives in Englewood. She speaks with deep respect for her students and their resilience as they returned to school after months away.
