The home of then-pregnant 20-year-old Tomeka Willis and Blake Whell, 22, burst into flames on the night of March 22, at a caravan park in Logan, south of Brisbane.
Mr Whell dove to protect his pregnant partner from the fire, sustaining burns to 95 per cent of his body as the flames consumed their home.22 year old Blake Whell died saving his partner from a fire in their caravan in Logan, south of Brisbane.Both Mr Whell and Ms Willis were put into an induced coma due to the severity of their injuries, but Mr Whell passed away in hospital that night after his father made the choice to turn off his life support.
Today, a funeral was held for Mr Whell, as the Logan community, friends and family mourned the loss of the 22-year-old. "It's a very sad day of a beautiful young man that has unfortunately lost his life," Christine Willis said.A friend of Mr Whell said life will no longer be the same.Mr Whell's father, Lloyd Bickel, will also remember his son as a hero."I feel like we will remember, through the kids, through Tomeka."
