Police are investigating an unintentional shooting that took place on board a school bus and left one teenager injured earlier in March in Kingman.
According to the Kingman Police Department, a 14-year-old student at Lee Williams High School brought a handgun to school on March 23. After school, the 14-year-old and a 15-year-old boarded a school bus where the 14-year old pulled out the handgun and started manipulating it, police said. Authorities said the shooting was unintentional and investigators believe the 14-year-old did not intend to harm the other student, according to police. The victim was later taken to a local hospital with"serious, non-life-threatening injuries," police said.
After investigating, police determined the 14-year-old discarded the gun and the bullets after exiting the bus. Police said after searching the area they found the bullets but not the handgun. The 14-year-old who admitted involvement in the shooting could potentially face charges for disorderly conduct with a weapon, aggravated assault, endangerment, possession of a firearm on school grounds, discharge of a firearm in city limits and misconduct involving weapons, according to police.
