Commentary: In the Wizarding World, everyone carries a weapon and nobody can trust the government, writes Henry Rymer.

”) When cited, proponents of Harry Potter often refer to the series’ themes of “love being the most powerful magic” and “light overcoming darkness.” Fine and dandy motifs, no doubt.

One doesn’t need to dig deep into the lore of Harry Potter to know that these two concepts are not only prevalent throughout the book series, but also are easily transferred to a real-world context. For the uninitiated, Harry Potter is set in a universe wherein everyone and their mums are packing heat in the form of a magic wand.

In a similar vein, the Harry Potter universe is replete with example after example of abject governmental failures. At the local level, the administrative body running Hogwarts constantly and consistently fail not only to protect their pupils for existential threats, but actually encourage their underaged students to seek out threats that place these pupils is situations where significant bodily harm or death is expected.

So dumb

I assumed this was satire at first glance

Shit take, fella.

Did this guy really read the books? The government has been corrupted by a would-be dictator, who is defeated by having his weapon taken away from him when Harry uses the “expelliarmus” spell.

Trevor Weller: The Bibles real lesson is collective action and progressivism. See, anyone can make a hot take about books they didn't actually read.

When your political ideology requires appropriating a children's fantasy series to explain itself, how are you not embarrassed?

Pretty bad analogy. Potter was the exact opposite of that message

This puts a cherry on the top of stupid. The 'weapons' are wands, which were always a symbol of power in the HP novels, not of overthrowing government for a cheaper Happy Meal. Henry Rymer needs to find another gig, maybe in the fast food industry.

Well that’s enough internet for today

Wow... not even a disclaimer that this insane take doesn't represent the views of ?

This might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. Yes the wands in Harry Potter and guns are the same thing, this is something people with a large and not smooth brain are always saying
