The lieutenant governor’s proposal would not only do away with academic freedom; it would make attracting the best faculty near impossible.

On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced he would seek to abolish tenure for professors at Texas’ public universities, the latest in an ongoing GOP attack on public education. “What we will propose to do is end tenure, all tenure for all new hires,” said Patrick, whose proposal would eliminate tenure for new hires and require those who have it to undergo a review every year rather than every six.

He TexasGOP know we don't teach CRT. Another conspiracy gone too far that will hurt Americans. The floridagop law not mentioning the word gay trans.. SenatorCollins said the scotus is broken why? Her party used courts 2000 to chose potus and to minoroty govern that is why.

Sure looks like he has trouble separating Church and State as well - which tracks with the attacks on academia.

Educated people are the enemies of the GOP. The dumber people are, the more likely they'll vote for Republicans. That's why Trump said, 'I like poorly educated people'.

“Freedom” to mooch off taxpayers & teach Communism. No thanks! BanTenureNow

Anything this nut case does is self serving and wrong. What relative is up for a tenure review soon?

He has got to go.

Patrick MUST go.

Remember how every branch of UT and A&M were each striving to be a 'Class 1 Research University?' Qualifications require numbers of PhD programs. PhD programs require students looking to enter academia. No tenure track, no researchers; no researchers, no PhD programs. = NO MONEY!

Send Dan Patrick back to Baltimore where he belongs with his fake name and mom jeans.

No, school choice along with ending tenure will insert competition into the education system. That will solve education issues.

Texas Republicans hate education. And educators.

I guess he's for term limits in the state legislature too?

Makes sense for engineering. Everyone knows DanPatrick wants to live in a building designed not from F = ma, but from F = 1 Timothy 6:20.

True. Also, college students are not children. If you're afraid their belief in the values you raised them with will crumble under the slightest exposure to an opposing viewpoint, you haven't taught them critical thinking, you're just afraid your nasty brainwashing won't stick.

This former sportscaster used to paint his face blue every Sunday during the Oiler Love Ya Blue days and run around the Channel 11 studio whooping it up like a high school cheerleader. When he was a talk radio guy he had an on-air vasectomy. That is our lieutenant governor.

It’s almost as if they want to do permanent damage to our entire education system…
