Fan worked at San Jose State for more than 40 years and was synonymous with the school’s athletics department to anyone in sports media.

Lawrence Fan, the biggest champion and unofficial historian of San Jose State athletics, died Monday night. He was 67.Fan, a San Francisco native, joined the SJSU sports information department in 1980. This fall he worked his 501th straight football game with the Spartans, but had a part in helping promote and celebrate virtually every sport on campus during his Hall of Fame career.

A member of CoSIDA since 1978, Fan made organizational history as the first Chinese American enshrined in the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 2012. He has served the Bay Area media in many capacities including arranging interviews for all Spartan athletes as well as the spokesman for San Jose State Athletics.
