Stirling said the school district decided that “creating the coaster demeaned the Native people of the Slope, constituted racial harassment and showed that incompetent to lead a school.” Stirling was fired Feb. 3.
In 2020, Stirling decided to go back to working in rural Alaska and became principal of Kali school. Stirling said he “tried to treat everyone with respect every day – kids, parents, staff.” Stirling said the coaster was made for a friend who was leaving the district. Ferreira said that what Stirling did was still inappropriate.
Once the image hit Facebook, Stirling spoke to the assistant superintendent and decided to come to Utqiaġvik to sort things out. He said the school district staff conducted an investigation, held three meetings in accordance with the Alaska statute and decided to terminate him.“I never meant the image to be public,” wrote Stirling, who is now back with his family in Delta Junction. “Still, I should have done what I tell students everyday: Think before you act.

This is MORE THAN “a personnel issue”. The school principal should be terminated without benefits AND he should never be employed in any position in public education again. There is no misinterpretation. He’s a bigot, and this is racial harassment.
