Half of Australian universities have been caught – or accused – of systemic underpaying. La Trobe has just been hit for a second time.

La Trobe University has admitted to underpaying casual academics $2.5 million related to the marking of exams and assessments, responding to its second underpayments claim in two months.

A spokeswoman for La Trobe said the university was “very disappointed by the findings of the review and sincerely apologised to all affected staff”. A spokeswoman for La Trobe said the most recent claim around marking had been identified as part of its independent review last year and the university was working to resolve the matter and pay any affected staff as soon as possible.
