Queen was 'thunderstruck' after learning of her father's death

Ken Clarke served the Queen and Prince Philip as a royal flight attendant.

He remembered the then Princess Elizabeth as 'the happiest woman in the world' before her flight to Kenya on January 31, 1952. Days later she learned her father King George VI had died, and she was Queen. On February 7 she flew back to the UK and was 'thunderstruck', Ken recalled
