The number of COVID-19 cases in NSW classrooms is rising rapidly, with an almost 50 per cent increase in the number of children infected between week one and week two.

More than 20,000 NSW school children have tested positive for COVID-19 in the first two weeks of the school year and the number of cases among students is rising rapidly, with an almost 50 per cent increase between week one and week two.

"You know there's been an exposure, but you don't know whether it's one kid or four kids or eight," she said. "The prevalence of Omicron cases is so high that [school is] not very different from being out and about in the supermarket or other areas," she said.Professor Webster says it os understandable some parents are concerned.

Mask wearing is mandatory for teachers and secondary students and highly recommended for pupils in year 3 and above in primary school.

Exposure of children to this virus was irresponsible. This places each child of potentially developing long covid

The gov does not care. They only care about the profits and bonuses of big companies.

Much room for investigations the governments actions do not follow any science.

Good. Better now than in the winter. Sniffles are less important than face to face classes and seeing your friends. COVID19nsw schools

Disgraceful. We're just lucky not to be amongst this number yet, and no doubt they'll stop giving out RATs next, even though we know it's an honour system and not obligatory now so who knows what the real numbers are?! makeschoolssafe auspol covid19nsw

Didn’t they say there was only ~2400 students and ~600 staff in the first week alone? That marks a pretty big jump for the second week.

Good old let it rip in all its glory

Letting it rip eh Dom. Working well for you.

Where is the data for each state on cases in schools and hospitalisations? We need transparency and to learn from each other about what is affecting case numbers both positively and negatively.

And 20,000 kids got over it in a couple of days with probably more dignity and strength than the whining fear filled adults playing with their rights.

Yet the NSW government were against distance learning till the vax numbers picked up. But the government calls it homeschooling (a kick in the guts for teachers who did the hard work over the pandemic)

Health First and Staying Safe. 20,000 students in two weeks. Why was this massive infection necessary? Would it be allowed if it was some other deadly Disease?

This is a f***ing cold for kids at worst, sure I feel sorry for vulnerable children and we should protect them individually but blanket vaccination to protect so few is dangerous especially with NO LONG TERM DATA!!!!!!!!!.

Well, well. Perhaps they (and their teachers, parents and grandparents) would have been safer if they'd carried on learning from home, at least until fully vaxed and boosted? Who'da thunk?! nswpol LetItRipDom

Does the chance of getting long covid double after each reinfection? 10% chance first time 20% chance second time? Seems pretty dodgy to me.

OtherSociology The Petri dish for the new more virulent form of the virus re child.

Qldaah Yep that should be fact checked?

So at a minimum, NSW can expect 10% or 2,000 students with long covid in the first fortnight of school.

How many parents/grandparents then caught it from the kids?

How TF did NSW govt let those stats get out? Are they even trying?

The long term effects of viruses could see Covid creating a tsunami of chronic illness for this generation of school kids.
