Central Washington University's Health Education project will expand and renovate Nicholson Pavilion, which was built in 1959.ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Central Washington University’s athletic facilities are getting a $60.5 million renovation.

The project, funded by the state Legislature, will expand, update and renovate Nicholson Pavilion, which was built in 1959. Purser Hall, an adjacent instructional building, will also be updated to create new classroom and meeting spaces. The project will include renovating and updating the existing performance gymnasium/convocation center, locker rooms, an expanded fieldhouse, two new weight-training areas and a new lobby, among other things.

The goal is to “transform Nicholson Pavilion into modern, state-of-the-art facility for Central’s health education programs, including physical education teaching, physical activities, sport management, and dance,” the university
