Education Education Headlines News

It is three years since Coláiste Éamann Rís went co-educational and the move has transformed the once boys-only school. In 2018 it faced closure, with just 260 students enrolled. Now, it has received almost the same number for first year applications alone

A notice pinned to a door post in the corridor of a Cork city school stopped me in my tracks last August.

Megan’s letter helped prompt the change that saved this school."I think you should make Deerpark into a mixed school," she wrote .Coláiste Éamann Rís had already begun exploring the idea of going co-educational. Primary schools were telling staff at the school it was what parents in the city wanted, especially parents who had come from abroad.

At a time of rising demographics in the post-primary school-going age group, the all-girl Presentation Secondary School in Ballyphehane, another DEIS school a ten-minute walk away, has seen its enrolment fall over the same period, from 252 in 2018 to just 191 now. Among the limited number of mixed schools they could consider, CER was the closest, but more importantly it was the one that felt right too.

College erases women, college could care less about womens safety, College goes woke

Shared toilets should not be a thing. Women's spaces are being erased!

I think most teenage girls would hate this

Shared toilets a symbol of perversion.

Yeah try it out on children first before you try it out on adults. Would the adult female author or the female teachers be happy to share toilets with Men?

What next-same sex changing rooms? Better concentrate on refraining from teachingSexistHatred.Such stopping as the subtle sexist messages spread in mediaHeadlines by journalists that often only put word “Woman”in headline &omit word “Man”when Man commitsHateCrime against Woman.

As long as the boys still aren’t being taught Sexism by their mammies and daddies and grannies or been fed Misogyny Hate Based Sexual Violence porn by RTE or other media. God help the girls having the boys of such mammies and daddies descend in their toilets.

“A Christian Brother school no less” writes this News Author. Would she write “A Muslim school no less”. So much for non-bigotry & objectivity in News reporting.

Article says there are also single sex toilets in the school and shared toilets are a progressive step for transgender students & whoever else wants to use them. This caters for all. Ireland way behind in numbers of co ed schools in Europe also should seperatechurchandstate

Fantastic. We need to end segregated education once and for all.

Like its written by a 13 year old woke Californian.. embarrassing rubbish

It’s quite something to see all the male replies here trying to tell us what girls want. All this talk of keeping girls separate is misogyny Plain and simple.

I've seen the trans community advocate for primary healthcare, civil rights and safety. Really important issues. Only to be dragged back to this tired old argument over toilets by trans-phobes is disheartening, give it a rest ffs.

'Shared toilets' notice stops RTE hack in her tracks. Says it all about the pathetic state of journalism in failing RTE. Close it down.

emma_okelly Utter nonsense.

The Sunday Times published its 'Parent Power' data today, ranking English schools on performance in public exams. Of the top 20 Independent schools, 17 were single sex. Of the top 20 State schools, 17 were single sex. Striking results. Is there similar data for Ireland?

“Shared toilets a symbol of Cork school's transition” What a stupid article.

So RTE is claiming there is a link between toilets being shared by males and females in a primary school and increased enrolments?

We are a country of contradictions: only recently we were discussing women's safety and yet we think shared toilets in schools is progress! 🤔😔

You'd think this was the first co-ed school in Ireland according to some of the comments on here. And going to an all girls school just delays exposure to rancid sexism.

The girls toilet has always been a sanctuary to escape a lad. Now girls will have nowhere.

no surprise at the usual woke propaganda from rte, but pretty disgusting to exploit the murder of a young woman.

RTE pushing the woke agenda, mixed sex toilets are not a good idea in schools. Its not progressive to ignore the very real differences and needs of the 2 sexes.Girls also perform better in single sex schools.I wonder why?

Crazy to think of all the talk in the last few weeks about abuse against women, and now it's seemingly ok to have 18year men sharing toilet facilities with vulnerable 13 year old girls, absolutely disgusting 🤮

Why is it people only make a stink about this when it comes to able bodied people? Nobody seems to care that people who aren't have shared unisex toilets (and with the odd able bodied knob who can't wait) for years.

NeilRedFM First I heard it’s in a disadvantage area. Even inner city

Are there ANY women out there who want to share toilets with men? Or this just something we're forcing on children?

More globalist woke agendas being pushed by RTE.

Printed off on an A4 sheet. That's how sloppy, haphazard and 'twist in the wind with every crazed ideology' these policies are.

A wierdos paradise

Bullshit. It’s simply a matter of rising population and no new supply of school places. Nothing to do with Co-Ed philosophy or shared toilets.

The will end well

I’d take our daughter out of her school if they changed to these toilet plans. Completely against it.

I have a shared toilet in my house and I've had it for years. Well before it was trendy.

This article pushes toxic American ideologies. Not everyone wants mixed schooling, which the article deems ‘progressive’. This is nonsense. People must be offered choice in education, not models based on toxic, regressive identity politics.
