YOUR SAY: Should children be allowed to have mullets at school? The mullet has made a unusual return during lockdowns, which has seen schools across Australia REJECT the hairstyle fad deeming it as 'inappropriate.' 9News MORE HERE:

"When you're working from home there is less pressure."Then they realised you can go shorter on the sides but still have fun at the back like Billy Ray Cyrus said."

The haircut was known as an 80s and 90s staple with rock stars like David Bowie, John Farnham joining the country star Cyrus in leading the craze. Now, three decades on, the hairdo has infiltrated the once stuffy world of professional golf. "It's become a good luck charm," Australian golfer and world number 27 Cameron Smith said recently showing off his longer locks."I'd really like to go full business at the front and party at the back."

The more a fashion style is not allowed, the more will more kids will want it. Ket them enjoy it, if its their small act if rebellion. I mean by this if hair is longer than allowed, they need to tie it back. I think that might see the new/old 70s fashion drop off. 🤔

ElaineM11584892 Yes! 🙄

It's hair ffs. Does it interfere with their ability to learn? No. They've been doing this since lockdown in early 2020. Why is it suddenly an issue now 2 years later?

ElaineM11584892 No it’s the ugliest ever.

It's hair, who cares

Yes stupid question

When u join a club you obey its rules. No different being at school or having to wear glasses for safety purposes. Show respect to your school and your teachers

We're getting as bad as America with these stupid rules. Private schools are probably different as they want to turn their students into little clones of themselves, but public schools have no right to do that unless it somehow could be a risk factor. Personally I hate mullets!

No way

I don’t care really but they look stupid

Yes they should it does not, mean any harm 😃

Sure but no rat tails.

It has got to depend on the quality of mullet. That is a poor example of a 3.5/10. If it's thick and flows, the kids can let it grow!

Yes

Yes leave the mullet alone

If your kid's school bans a hair cut, get your kid out of it. By doing that, they are teaching them that expression and creativity are unnacceptable and that’s just wrong.

The question you should be asking is “Find me a school that has the balls to say NO TO MULLETS without the MINORITY jumping on the bandwagon and opting for the school to shutdown in fear for speaking up because they have values in students appearance”. GOOD LUCK 🖕🤬🖕

Hair doesn't not have anything to do with learning fu ck off let kids be

They should be compulsory

I'm not a fan of the mullet myself but I feel kids should be allowed to have whatever hairstyle they choose. Schools should have no say in matter, full stop!

Anybody with that haircut should be banned from public areas.

I think they look ridiculous. But that's just what I think. Live and let live. Life would be boring if everyone looked and acted the same.

Reject them and they are suit in the 80s but not in 2020s and it look ridiculous now

Typical crap from 9......maybe worry about your grammar and covid variants..?

If we allow schools to continue to dictate how kids can have their hair then we might as well take away their self expression rights because nobody should dictate this except the individual themselves but society today thinks they can and should control everything and everyone

David Bowie & many others sported mullets from extreme to gentle. Any school that starts the nonsense that went on in the 60s & 70s (mods, Whoies etc) re haircuts needs their heads/Heads examined. C21 has much much bigger issues ffs!

Shut up about hair. It means nothing. Inappropriate is judging someone, making them feel inferior about themselves.

OMG time to stop following 9news

Yes why not the school should wake up to the fact they are teaching students not their hair or dress sense this is a ridiculous argument imo

Australia stuck in the 80s.... like their internet connections 🤣

ScottyFromPhotoOps ScottytheFailure

I can't believe the furore over an old hairstyle making a comeback in 2022. There is so much more to target your attention to in this time of upheaval in the world. REALLY !!

Lmao! It is not inappropriate. It's in a poor taste and a shameful bragging of a bogan background 😅🤣😂🤣😅😂🤣😅 Let them be proud of their 'heritage' mate! 😅🤣😂🤣😅

Ehhh it's a Catholic religious cult school

What are we teaching kids in school these days. Don’t show any signs of individualism just conform. Just walk this way kids. How about education for the future. Not the same old same old of one size fits all.

Really?

Mullets a Feral, they were ok for some Rock Stars in the 1980s 🤠

They should be allowed to have whatever they want it's their hair!!! Geez!!

it doesn’t affect education.. there’s better things to ban, surely? 🙄

Is this another form of control in the making? Think of what they’re doing. I want and need no part of this. I will look after my man and myself, myself thank you.

Of course they should.

I believe schools should spend less time on this shit and more time on teaching them!

just wanted to know why mullet is inappropriate?

NO!!!!

No

Like Crocs, the mullet is a crime against humanity

If the prime minister can go wash hair for a day, why can't the Mullet stay? Why is this even a question? Is it not the governments preferred hairstyle?Since Scotty just got caught up on all the gossip.

Banning haircuts, who are we? North Korea?

Personal I don't like mullets but to reject from school for being inappropriate is a load of shit. We all are slowing losing what we use to call freedom. SMH

If they allowing transgender in schools and they fighting over it then why not haircut. 🤔

No , they should not be allowed It was a ugly hair do years ago and it’s ugly now. Every time I see my grandson I try very hard to bribe him to have a nice hair cut. Ps. This is only my opinion 🌺

My 14 year old son is trying to grow a mullet. It is painful to watch 🤣

Of course, what a stupid question.

They should be banned

FFS the question should be “Should children be allowed to be vax**d at school”. MSM peddling the same shit that no one cares about

We’re worried about mullets when there are schools expelling kids for identifying as LGBTIQA+ in QLD, please! Seriously, Australia! priorities discrimination

I think the schools should be more worried about what is being injected into the kids. Hairstyles can be changed, the vaxxed can never be unvaxxed

You mean the Barrister look?

Most definitely mullets are inappropriate in every way, no matter the place or circumstance 😁. But telling school boys how to ware their hair is also highly inappropriate.

Nine news tackling the big issues.

Why not … we use to have Mohawks

I personally hate the mullet look but people should be able to cut/colour their hair how ever they want.

Most revolting hairstyle ever created, but banning it, no

We should encourage individualism... not everything should be 'neat and square'. However we should also encourage a healthy respect, empathy and consideration of all people...

Can't see why not. Kids are not in the army so why cant they be individuals. Kept neat, tidy and clean, there is nothing wrong with it.

🤢

At least it will make it easier for teachers to tell who the stupid kids are.

It's just hair. It's the kid that looks stupid, so if they want to be seen that way, it's their choice.

We could always bring back the slick back, shouldn't matter outside shop class or home ec if it's clean

The mullet the calling card of a bogan ! Time to move on guys it’s not the fucking 80’s

The mullet should be outlawed everywhere… accept Mt Druitt

Why not, haircut doesn’t stop you from learning

Who cares ? really , how is this even news worthy ?

Unless it is a private school that enforces hairstyles as part of their enrolment contract, no. Plus it makes it much easier to pick out Bogans.

It’s just a haircut, who cares? If they are expressing who they are, isn’t this a good thing for their development? Not just conforming to someone else’s ideals?

A terrible haircut for sure, but ridiculous to ban it.

Oh come on, mullet wearing is just a passive type of rebellion, ugly but no big deal. As long as they study I don't care what sort of hair-do they have.

These same schools provide us with some of the most pathetic human beings, that line the corridors of parliament. There are much bigger issues than a haircut

No!no!no!

Does a mullet represent something bad or immodest? Is it innately offensive or merely a matter of personal taste? Where should the line be drawn between what is and is not acceptable at school.

No need to ban... it's a good way to judge who has bad taste.🤣🤣 it's fine on kids. I mean this is the time in their lives to make questionable choices.🤭

Only CollingwoodFC and PenrithPanthers supporters

Why not... uniforms are a form of control same as hem lines and hair styles

So will Schools ban children with a crew cut because it makes them a skinhead, I think not. It is all about education not the type of haircut. Why do we have Neanderthals running schools.

Even though I'm not a big fan of mullets I think it would be the stupidest thing to ban them in school or just in general. Just let people have the hairstyle they want. It doesn't affect their education and how the hell is it 'inappropriate?'

Its disgusting It makes kids look like thugs

Schools are there to educate not to dictate how students have their hair.

Our 7 yr old loves his mullet and so do his friends and school community. He's not the only one at school with one . . .

If they want to have a mullet willingly then go for it

Hey Channel 9 I think kids should have mullets more than I think a ‘news’ organisation should consistently raise money for a political party

Absolutely not.

pay our teachers correctly, fund your government school properly so the kids that go there can have just as well of an education as more catholic/private schools, focus on the welfare of the students and teachers. Stop policing kids bodies.

just say you hate poor people and move on

The mullet🤣 It was a bad hairdo in the 80's-- it's a sad hairdo now. If parents are ok with their children going out in public looking like vintage dorks, that's their business but schools have rules....thank goodness. 🤣

The real question, should we really care about such banality. Is this newsworthy? It’s fkn hair.

No, definitely no

Ask Daniel Andrews...he runs our lives

Hmmmm, let me mullet this over….

Private schools have their own rules. Deal with it. If you dont like it go somewhere else. No one is forcing you to go to that school.

👍🏼ABSOLUTELY! children should be allowed to have mullets at SCHOOL!💪🏼🇦🇺🏫

Where does this q come from in a country where catholic school is not even allowed to teach catholic values?

Kids can get sex changes, fall in love with a tree and identify as a gender neutral version of Gumby and thats ok but let's ban a hairstyle . Love how people use 'its 2022' for acceptance when it suits

Meanwhile ScottyTheCompletePsycho is at a hairdresser washing some employees hair. How weird is that.

You can’t take one away and not the others. Regulation haircuts, no hair dye, no piercings, no tattoos, respect the teachers. This is the basics of discipline. It’s not rocket science!!!

Would someone pleas explain for me just how, and in what way it is inappropriate?

Noo

Mullets should not be allowed in public

Anyone principal who bans mullets is a bum.

I think they should be focused on educating instead of fashion. There is alot to catch up on due to covid. So get on with!

Isn’t there bigger issues than students hairstyles. Stick to educating and helping our children become successful.

Private schools have dress codes 🤷🏻‍♂️. Pretty sure boys have to have hair above the collar. With privilege comes weird rules

Is this real cause there are issues that are a bit more important than a haircut.

NO

No

As much as I think it’s the ugliest hairstyle imaginable I have trouble with the concept of banning it. The embarrassment of having school photos with your kid rocking a mullet should be enough punishment.

NO!!!!!Absolutny NO!!!!!

Well there are two sides to this argument. The first one is that 21 people died overnight in Queensland due to Covid related deaths. The other one is who gives a shit

I would like to ban “Karen” hair cuts in public because I feel it is inappropriate. We all know it’s a stuck up snob doing this… you know the type of person that doesn’t get invited to parties

Is see no problem with it.

Let them be themselves. Don't stop them, or else they will hate you forever 😌

Yes it's the most aussie haircut going around, the stuck up schools need to get that around there thick head

Schools do have the right it's a FreedomofChoice FreedomOfExpression

It should be against the law to sport a mullet, rats tail, or to have blue, green, or purple hair!!

There was no problem with this hair style in the 80s when I was a teenager!!!

There’s a time for everything. The Mullet had its time. Move on

Let them have it so they can look back and say, OMG I was a drop kick with that hair style lolll

People from around the world read these tweets don't forget 👆🤣🤣🤣

Seems haircuts have always made a statement about the person. To me the mullet says 'I'm a bogan' like my parents. To some it may imply 'I'm a violent criminal or just a thug.' Like it or not, a good image helps you in life.

Not woke enough!!

Schools be like . Be yourself , male , female , non binary, gay , straight . Express yourself (Which I believe in and agree ) Schools also be like , how dare you come to school with a mullet , suspension

This is not News. How about doing some serious journalism?

Nobody should be allowed to have a mullet anywhere, ever.

No

The schools should organise to get those students a free haircut. Mullets are super spreaders.

It's only hair........

You can get a sex change in high school but not a mullet? What kind of question is that.

The question should be are schools allowed to dictate that they can't. The mullet looks riduliculous but it's a haircut that teenagers are all running with. Let them be teenagers.

Lockdowns are inappropriate. Mullets are fair game really depending on what logic you use. Opel manta anyone?

It looks gronkie as.

It’s disgusting 🤮 but it shouldn’t be banned

Banning it will make them see it as a sign of rebellion so they will want it more. Ignore it and they will see it as the ugly thing it is in no time 😂😂😂

should schools be allowed to discriminate because of and dictate a child's physical appearance ?

Cam Smith ⛳️💪🏽

I personally detest seeing mullets on kids at school. However, we live in a free country so people should be allowed to have the hair they want. They look horrible, though. Feral. Especially with the shaved sides.

Yes. But you have to wear tight flys eyes fabershae jeans and sneakers. The Mullet was just part of the look.

Agree

If we banned mullets we wouldn’t have any students

Mate mullet for life 🤟🏼

Yes, it is just a hairstyle and is not doing any harm to anyone.

Of course.. why not it's just a hair cut right..

Let kids be kids if they want to have a mullet they should be able to. Hair style doesn’t stop you learning

No

How is it Inappropriate?

No.
