From Palo Alto to Punxsutawney, everybody knows that Feb. 2 is Groundhog Day. But this year — for the last time this century — the date on the calendar 2/2/22 is also Trumpet Day.
So says Ron Gordon, the retired Redwood City teacher who is behind other fun “math holidays” like Square Root Day , Odd Day and Ones Upon a Day . So why Trumpet Day? It’s “to to to too” when you say it out loud, which may work better without using an actual trumpet, Gordon concedes. He came up with the idea following Once Upon a Day back in 2011, and Gordon plans to give away $2,222, split among 52 people who let him know how they’re marking the momentous day. He’s set up a website with his contact information and more details about Trumpet Day atNow, some might say that there’s another Trumpet Day coming up in a few weeks when the calendar hits 2/22/22, but that date hits a sour note for Gordon. In other words, he says, one two too many.
