Middletown Area School District Superintendent Chelton Hunter said the district is working to make the schools a place for 'excitement and joy where students are provided a proper place to learn, grow, and prosper.'

Middletown Area School District released new details related to the use of a stun gun on a student following a fight at the high school on Wednesday.

The response to the fight included the high school assistant principal and district School Resource Officer, intervening due to the “escalating nature of the situation,” Hunter said. The SRO is an officer with Lower Swatara Police Department, assigned to the district. He added that the SRO and assistant principal regularly monitor all lunch periods.

The district is committed to making sure it moves forward from the incident and strives to make schools places where students don’t have to worry about random acts of violence, Hunter said. The district will evaluate its safety protocols and procedures.
