Queensland records 18,000 new COVID-19 cases

Four hundred and two people are in hospital as a result of the virus, including 22 people in ICU, with five on ventilators. In the last 24 hours, 37,951 tests were done and Queensland's vaccine coverage is 91.1 per cent for eligible people over the age of 16.

"Modelling can change [but] the projections are, at the moment, that New South Wales Victoria will reach their peaks before Queensland. Ms Palaszczuk said it was not desirable to have children back at the peak of the Omicron wave and so the government has moved the school year start from January 24 to Monday, February 7.There will be an extension to the planned end of school year, with students finishing on December 16, instead of December 9.

"We want as much certainty as we can possibly provide and we don't want parents having to have snap closures of schools because we don't have staff or because there's an outbreak," she said.

For people to believe that 47% of tests were positive for the day is the problem here. There’s so much BS being reported by all mainstream media. It has become comical to witness what people will consume and believe is “news”.

Ms Palaszczuk says school reopening strategies are being discussed at National Cabinet and state levelThe start of term one for primary schools across Queensland could be delayed if the state is approaching the peak of the current Covid-19 outbreak. I'm a teacher. Openning schools to this tsunami catastrophe is not an option. 2 weeks is not enough. Unless it's just prep time for home learning. And high schools must be included too They should switch schools to home learning. Teachers have jobs. Children get educated and no virus is spread. A laptop and free wifi is a small price to pay for the safety of our children. Oh national cabinet, the same people who agreed on the 4 hr rule. Total faith!!!! My kids will not be going back with a risk to their personal safety!!
