In addition to ramping up surveillance testing in K-12 public schools, Mayor Bill de Blasio said anytime someone tests positive for COVID-19 in a classroom, students and staff will get two at-home test kits to use over the course of seven days. Anyone exposed in the classroom can continue going to school as long as they test negative.

New Quarantine Policy: if there is a positive case in a classroom, students who were in close proximity to these students will no longer have to quarantine and will continue attending school if they do not have symptoms and do not have a positive test result from a COVID test.“This guarantees consistency in their education,” de Blasio said. “It guarantees fewer disruptions which parents have rightfully said have been a tremendous challenge for them.

Waiting on line for over an hour on a DOE priority line. Someone on the regular line said he'd been waiting over 4 hours to be tested.

There’s no “if” it’s “when” then get exposed. There are 2 tests per student period. And doubling insufficient opt in testing. The tests will be depleted by the end of the 1st week. UFT Schools will be a (preventable) mess by Wed.

What about mandatory testing for staff and students? It seems implausible that there won't be an outbreak

Why are NYCSchools only giving home tests to kids that were exposed? Just give them to everyone! What is the problem? Don’t you want families testing as a precaution? Most of us can’t wait in line for 2 hours at the testing sites. oni_blackstock NYCMayorsOffice

And lying to a screener can now have legal consequences. How many will make the decision in an effort to simply pay the rent should their child come down with a symptom that mimics a simple cold for most?

We’ll see. This hardly seems fair to teachers. I think they should go remote until at least mid January. Give the surge a chance to level off.

Good! Keep our vaxxed kids in school

Hope it goes as planned.
