Guba National High School in Negors Oriental bagged an international award for its environmental project, the Department of Education announced on Monday, Dec 27.

GNHS bagged the “First Silver” prize under the “Environmentally Sustainable Project” category of the International Awards for Liveable Cities and Communities held from Dec. 6 to Dec. 8.The project mainly focused on efforts to ensure the successful implementation of “Gulayan sa Paaralan” and the renovation of landscapes and public spaces with the use of eco-friendly materials, plastic wastes, and other reusable items.

Meanwhile, the achievement was commended by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones who was born in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental. “I would like to commend the personnel and the learners from Guba National High School in creating an eco-friendly school environment that is vital in saving our nature,” said Briones in a statement.

“I am very proud of my kababayans and I hope that this kind of initiatives and projects would also encourage all schools nationwide in establishing a clean and green environment,” Briones added.
