Premier Dominic Perrottet will on Wednesday argue that the way education is divided between the states and the Commonwealth is “a dog’s breakfast' that makes no sense | LucyCormack

In a lunchtime address, Mr Perrottet will argue that the way education is divided between the states and the Commonwealth is “a dog’s breakfast [that] makes no sense”.

Premier Dominic Perrottet will call for parents and families to have more choice and flexibility in education. The speech will be Mr Perrottet’s first to the press club since becoming the state’s 46th premier and will build on his promise to be a “family premier”. “The process may not always have been pretty, but it has been a lot more productive than the Council of Australian Governments ever was,” he will say, describing COAG as the destination “where good ideas went to die. May it rest in peace”.

“The fact is, the Commonwealth doesn’t need to be involved in everything the states do. By contrast, the states have so much in common with one another, even despite their differences,” he will say.
