Under a new scheme designed to lure health professionals to rural, regional and remote areas, the government will wipe or reduce the university debt of doctors and nurses heading bush.

GP John Hall said the scheme could be worth up to $100,000 for a doctorThe incentives will increase for those working in more remote areas

If they are in a remote community, they must work at least 24 hours a week for a period equivalent to half the length of their degree. "The more remote you go, the more significant the practice incentive payment or the workforce incentive payment is," Dr Gillespie said."It is targeted because there is an acute shortage of general practitioners in the outer, regional and remote areas — more so than anywhere else."

"This is a significant incentive for junior doctors and nurses as well to look at an early career in rural areas."

I live and work in the Bush and cannot even get a student loan, guessing this is targeting state capitals population as the rest of us are unworthy of such help

Nope

Yes

I live in rural/bush Australia and first they'll have to stop closing regional hospitals, emergency services, schools and many other things that get closed as regional Australia apparently isn't important because the majority of voters are in big cities

It's interesting to see that everyone has a different skew of what is important to them if they moved to the bush.

There shouldn't be university debt.

It's only for Doctors and Nurses, and even so, it's a bit difficult to work in 'the bush' if you can't find somewhere to live/rent.

No.

I work in the bush and my hecs are already paid off. Will I get a bonus too or just pay for others?

lol working in hospitality, there's no way I'll ever earn enough to need to pay it back. Thanks for the free education... not that it helped

How about paying better for regional workers( an allowance on top of income)

Build better infrastructure in regions, trains, public housing, education and hospitals and it will be easier to attract people. Build solar power, give them better Internet as well.

More enduring benefit - make sure there are regional schools where doctors would be prepared to send their children. Secure good education and the doctors, dentists, lawyers, physiotherapists etc. would move and communities could be rebuilt.

Will you be willing to get treated like shit if we pay you? Squid games light, what will you do for money?

Oh yes, if they pay my removal and help with housing I'll go out there But no uni debt, So does the government discriminate against those with no university debt

I live & work in the bush. Will the government pay for my university?

Recycled idea, doesn't keep professionals, like doctors, in area... You can't ask someone to be THE doctor, as in all the primary care and also the hospital doctor, and the emergency doctor... It's not sustainable

100% would

No.

No.

Why would you? Ridiculous financial advice. HECS repayments less than a couple of coffees a week at the lowest rate.

No. Do better

Probably yes

YES

How American.
