A couple of days after PREMIUM TIMES published a report about an alleged rape of a female student at the, Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has ordered an investigation into the incident.
“The man has been suspended. Since it is a disciplinary matter, it has to go through the procedure: the Senior State Committee will look at it and make recommendations for the final action to be taken,” Bem Goong, education ministry’s spokesperson in a telephone interview had told PREMIUM TIMES.
“In compliance with the directive, we have written a complaint to the Commissioner of Police and also written to the Director of the State Security Services in the State to carry out a discrete investigation into the matter to ascertain the veracity of the allegation.” Nathaniel Ikyur, Mr Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary, in a telephone interview with this reporter on Tuesday, also confirmed the governor’s directive on the matter.The Federal Ministry of Education launched an inquiry into the matter following a letter by PREMIUM TIMES after several months of speaking with co-staff and alleged victims of Mr Esly’s sexual molestation.
