Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai is calling on the US to take action to ensure that Afghan girls and women are able to return to the classroom and the workplace in the wake of the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan.

Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for women's equality who survived a Taliban assassination attempt, said she came to the State Department"to talk about equality in girls' education."Prior to the start of their closed-door meeting, Yousafzai noted that"Afghanistan right now is the only country where girls do not have access to secondary education.

Since seizing power in Afghanistan in August, the Taliban have imposed sharp restrictions on girl's access to education and barred women from certain workplaces. The group released a so-called "decree on women's rights" setting out rules governing marriage and property for women. It did not mention employment or education.Afghanistan has also plunged into a humanitarian and economic crisis.

Ok. What actions can possibly the US take to ensure that? I am curious about what she proposed; after all, she is a peace advocate.

USA can't even educate their own dam people

Malala you are appealing to the wrong people. You should be asking your own Pakistani government to stop Taliban and terrorist export. Who helped to prop up the present Afghan govt? Do not be an agent of a terrorist state.

The United States does not care at all whether Afghanistan or Afghans are alive or dead.

Where are your masks?

It is better if Malala herself plan a personal visit to Afghanistan! She is the one who got the Nobel peace prize and it is high time Malala put that title in good use! 👍

You have my total support.

Is this news posted before Taliban's took over Afghanistan? I don't trust this fake news outlet(CNN)?

Does the US have any influence over the Taliban? tbf, it's the job of the Taliban in AF but given their dismal track record one can't expect much.

Why is she calling on the US Call on the afghan gov't. US was there for 20 years keeping women safe now she wants them to do something? She should call on the Islamic council to protect the women and girls.

But it's none of America's business,And who will protect the rights of AfricAn-Americans, Asians and Native Americans in the US? !🤔🤔🤔

Yep threw the afghans under the bus when handing them to the Taliban We need to get them out, or SOMETHING

Cue the Trumpets blaming Biden for Trump and Pompeo’s deal with the Taliban, their massive troop withdrawal pre inauguration and halting of the SIV program for 4 years. And Trump bragged about what he had done to sabotage Biden.

As noble as the sentiment is, practically, how is the US going to ensure that Afghan girls and women are going to be allowed back in their classrooms?

Let's worry about people in the U.S. first

It’s not their responsibility anymore.

I'm going home for good.... It's time... Bye...
