The World Health Organization tagged Omicron as a variant of concern, indicating a higher risk of transmission than previous variants, on Friday after it was first detected in South Africa.

In addition to South Africa, England also added Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Angola, and Zimbabwe to the list. However, the confirmation of the Omicron variant has caused the government to revert to its decision.that masks would be reintroduced in shops and on public transport in England beginning Monday .
