Another key to great education is that it is permission-less for the provider and for the family. Most adults in this nation grew up attending public schools that were created for us by well-intentioned, and once incredibly professional organizations. But if you wanted to do anything differently, you had to ask permission.
Innovative and performing schools should be able to operate beyond philanthropy by utilizing state education funds allocated for students that will enable students to have the learning environment that best meets their needs. It's illogical that so many great programs and ideas need to be sustained by philanthropic support from tens of billions of dollars each year when these are public services. The United States spends $752.
The Florida charter schools highlighted here have the benefit of being in a state where most families have access to permission-less education. But the process in most states is akin to winning a lottery to get a good education. It wouldn’t have to be that way if parents were able to direct state tax dollars that are channeled into education budgets to a school of their choice. Poor families should not have to be beholden to charity.
