Taliban say female students would be taught by women wherever possible and classrooms would remain separated, in accordance with the movement’s interpretation of Islamic sharia law

Veiled students hold Taliban flags as they listen a speaker before a pro-Taliban rally at the Shaheed Rabbani Education University in Kabul on Sept. 11, 2021.Women in Afghanistan will be allowed to study in universities as the country seeks to rebuild after decades of war but gender-segregation and Islamic dress code will be mandatory, the Taliban’s new Higher Education minister said on Sunday.

He said female students would be taught by women wherever possible and classrooms would remain separated, in accordance with the movement’s interpretation of Islamic sharia law.“Thanks to God we have a high number of women teachers. We will not face any problems in this. All efforts will be made to find and provide women teachers for female students,” he told a news conference in Kabul.

Taliban officials have said women will be able to study and work in accordance with sharia law and local cultural traditions but strict dress rules will apply. Haqqani said hijab religious veils would be mandatory for all female students but did not specify if this meant headscarves or compulsory face coverings.

Haqqani said where no women teachers were available special measures would be adopted to ensure separation.

How Progressive of them….🤦‍♂️

Because Taliban men can't control themselves or is it because Taliban men are afraid that women would do better in classrooms?

Sorry I was just scanning the headline. Thought it said Texas!

More accurate headline: 'Taliban say women can study at university but classes must **REMAIN** segregated' It's bad that they are segregated, but this doesn't represent a change. They have been required to segregate after 3rd grade.

There is something deeply, deeply perverse with this group.

Do not really believe the invasion of Afghanistan was about women and their education. More about chasing and getting revenge of an errant Saudi son. This is a lesson among many in history of that futility and wrongness of revenge. When will we learn?

Why does it seem trump and Putin set the removal of the existing Afghanistan government for the taliban...sure looked pre stagged.

Their body. Governments choice.

There's the progress twenty years of war and trillions of dollars made happen!

Sounds like Saudi Arabia, where Canada sells arms to 👍

There are different cultures, big deal. This fits very well into Canada’s multiculturalism world view, so Canada is the least in this world has the right to criticize. It is backwards to allow multiculturalism in this country but not in the world.

Is that what our special friends the 911 Saudi's do? Seems like the Afghan Pashtun treatment of women is no different then the Saudi's but it is the Afghans who get all the hate from the press not the 911 Saudi's

Why

Justin welcomes you, because he too will treat women like crap. JustinTrudeau

So just like our 'friend' Saudi Arabia.
