SUDBURY, ONT. -- NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is pledging financial breaks for Canadian students, vowing to do away with interest on federal student loans "immediately and permanently" as well as forgive student debt.
Singh says students have been among the Canadians hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic and forgiving their debt would give youth a necessary leg up.Laurentian recently had nearly 60 undergraduate programs and 11 graduate programs axed amid a restructuring plan, which Singh says "could have been avoided" with aid from the federal government under Liberal leader Justin Trudeau.
Singh is no different then Justin both are trust fund children they both have no idea what it’s like to be middle class and struggling, Singh went to private schools in USA from grade 6-12 far from middle class.
Oh, that's a great platform ! What about 'my' debts, I worked all my life for a meager pension, don't live frivolously but still have debts AND interests on them. I pay my school taxes even though I don't have kids in school.
Maybe low interest but not nil and no cancelling maybe extend terms. You borrow you payback. Life lessons are important for students. JS and NDP should support value creation with business growth not handouts - successful business people are not villains. They create jobs for all

I am 67 years old, retired from an aviation career as a pilot. I paid for all my training myself. Can I get an interest free loan to go to college to become an electrician. I hope so because I couldn’t afford college and joined the military instead. Nothing is free. My turn.

On the full loans of the federal part? Most of the students loans are provincial, so it sounds good on paper but in reality the federal part of loans is quite low.

He cannot get rid of student debt because it falls on the provinces and would put a huge hole in the provinces. And maybe he doesn't know.. Ford already got rid of interest thru the pandemic. Many people paid off student debt thru pandemic because the interest was gone.

We paid for our kids post secondary education and we are by no means wealthy. It’s a matter of setting priorities. Who do you think will be paying for these forgiven educational loans and waived interest. People should not expect taxpayers to foot the bill for their choices.
