Experts say inequality exists across Queensland schools and is more likely among students with limited English
"Sometimes the kids could be the best English speakers in the house, so if they get work from school, they can't rely on anyone in their house to help them do their work," the teacher said."It's not that anyone at home doesn't have the best of intentions, but they simply don't have the capacity to help them, because they just don't have the facilities.
However, he said extra language support is often provided at school so may be difficult to supply during lockdown."We're seeing increasing school segregation, so we're seeing more disadvantaged students concentrated in a smaller number of disadvantaged schools," he said. President of the Queensland Teachers' Union, Cresta Richardson, said it was up to schools to decide what was right for their students."There will be communication from the schools about, is it digital or is it a paper process and different schools make decisions on that based on their school community," she said.
