Shadow Education Minister tanya_plibersek says arguments made by the National Party against proposed legislation to increase childcare subsidies show how “out of touch” the party is.

Shadow Education Minister Tanya Plibersek says arguments made by the National Party against proposed legislation to increase childcare subsidies show how “out of touch” the party is. On Tuesday some Nationals senators argued stay-at-home mothers should be receiving more support, with one MP claiming women are using childcare to outsource parenting.

“Labor’s childcare policy helps all families earning an income of under $530,000," she told Sky News. “When you compare it to the Liberal’s new childcare policy, 750,000 more families benefit under Labor’s policy than under Scott Morrison’s." She said she thinks the Nationals’ decision was all about Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce’s “personal ambition”.
