My daughter is just completing grade 11. She loves the virtual schooling. Her marks have risen by 10% (now in the 90's). She never wants to go back to highschool but hopes to attend University in person after grade 12. For some students, virtual school has been excellent!
No one fails in elementary. Before COVID, you could do ABSOLUTELY nothing and still pass. Now, parents can use COVID to rationalize why their children did nothing for 16 months and why they should pass to avoid impacting their mental health. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
They don't repeat grades anymore
Yes, the kid with $5k of hardware and a curated home space is at risk.
A student could have been absent the entire year and not handed in a single piece of work and will be moved on to the next grade. Nobody repeats a grade anymore.

Everyone had the same disadvantage. September should be a review of the previous year.
Loved online learning. Whenever the teacher was teaching something below my kids intelligence level or something I didn’t agree with, I just shut it off and let them go do something else. Great for monitoring young kids. I’ll keep remote learning for as long as it’s available.

Kids don’t fail grades in elementary school anymore. They move along with their peers. High schoolers fail courses.
My high school aged kids had the best grades and attendance they've ever had.

CTVAtlantic Highly doubt its because of the method of learning. It’s more likely because of their inability to focus or your ability to parent your kids into time management.
Remote learning AND remote teaching
Lol, no..they learned more this year in many ways. Remote work is going to be the norm so it's not bad to learn the self discipline it requires. Plus at least for my kids there was no real opportunity to ask many questions so they had to learn how to find their own answers.
Grade 1 was a crap show. The children hated online schooling. It's a known that sitting for long periods of time is bad for the children's. Yet they're have to sit in front of a computer screen for 5 1/2 hours five days a week.
If it was up to me as a parent, and I don't think it's is, my kids would repeat.
Parents don’t really get that choice.
Why can't adults do their education online over again? I think I'd get better marks now in most of the lower grades, maybe conservatives can learn about sharing ❤️

I think it’s a crap shoot.. some kids progressed and some didn’t. My kids did virtual from the beginning and I believe they did well in their grades.. but I know some kids rarely attended class or were absent from their screens half of the time… those kids will be behind
