This 'lowest common denominator' approach to education is a race to the bottom. Taken to the extreme, schools would offer remedial courses only so that no child is made to feel inadequate. It's a sad day when asperations for excellence are crushed.

Reminds me of the cancellation of track and field in my elementary in 1976? Why? Well ribbons were on given to 1, 2, 3 top winners and everyone else was left out. The following year, all participants got participation ribbons. Athletics still survived 🙂

Most schools don’t offer AP or honours classes…not enough resources nor enough students. It’s not difficult to challenge those honours students in a regular class environment. Small schools and districts have been successfully doing that for years.

The slow death of public education and the continued divide between the haves and have nots. The weathy will get tutors or send their kids to private school. Meanwhile poor kids will be left to drown a pool of ‘fairness’.

For those curious, Rex Murphy thinks AP courses are inclusivity gone mad because he was too dumb to actually look into what the school board is doing before putting his opinions to paper.

In the real world, there are no participation medals. In some places, raises are based on performance, about standing out, being better than the rest. This policy is a long term disaster.
This is terrible news for low and middle income parents with bright children. The more affluent parents with bright children will find private tutors or move to private schools that offer advanced educational opportunities.
