'We’re concerned about having a lost generation.' Counselors and schools are trying to steer pandemic high-school graduates back to college

Hundreds of thousands of students who graduated from high school last springto higher education, diverted by the pandemic. Now high schools and colleges are trying to set them back on track.

Roughly 727,000 fewer students enrolled in undergraduate programs this spring compared with the same time last year, according to the National Student Clearinghouse, which collects student data from around the country. “The stakes are huge,” said Lee Gray, senior director of education and advocacy at the Oasis Center, a Nashville-based nonprofit with a range of youth services. “If we don’t do our jobs to the point of exhaustion, just to have a conversation about where they’re at and where they want to go, and is education still a part of their plan, it’s going to be a huge failure.”, a phenomenon known as summer melt. or trade school, or any professional development path post high school. This college obsession does nothing but burden entire generations with debt and inadequacy complexes.

These days it's better to learn a Skill than have a degree unless it's a needed specialty like Medicine, law, etc.

One class of graduates does not make a 'generation.'
