You can’t be a bricklayer and work from home…

Learnt that customers are rude and arrogant and treat staff like shit, particularly in hospitality.

On a twenty ton forklift do not top up the hydraulic tank with gasoline.

Same as I learned from every job: people will be horrible to one another when put under pressure with no governance

In the 60's (pre-decimal), I worked as a waitress in a seaside restaurant at 2 shillings an hour. We depended on tips to get a decent wage. I very quickly learnt that it was possible almost always to give change not containing a sixpence so I got at least a shilling back as tip.

Never ever get a summer job.

The general public are bellends

That a white boy stuck in the ladies’ intimate product dept at Bon Marche Brixton was not an optimal middle management call.

CAPITALISM Kills !!

Withdrawals today !!! I really appreciate all you've done for me, you are the best and I promise to spread your good work Thank you RonelMoses32

Working to earn money equals independence and freedom.

Patience and persistence. My first summer job was steering a cucumber picker when I was six years old helping on my family’s farm. It went ~2 miles per hour and I had to keep it straight in the track. Worked with all my siblings and my grandfather. Every day & all summer long.

That the public are morons.

How to do envelope corners

That you can drop bogies into someone's coffee and they don't notice.

You wouldn’t be so keen to eat in some fancy restaurants if you’d seen the state of their kitchens/fridges

It’s way too hot to work

Employers are fickle.

The human race is beyond saving

I learnt whether 915.143 went before or after 915.134.

Where to start? The value of money (picking raspberries from age 5 or 6, making £1 a day in the fifties). Learning to love Swedish people, their culture, their food. Ditto Canadian …

That Capitalism is a societal disease.

If the jumped-up cook that thinks he's a chef gives you (waiter) a hard time, wait until no-one is looking, slam him up against a wall and threaten to kick his teeth in unless he learns some manners. Makes for a much more condusive working environment. /your mileage may vary

That Trump was right all along.

Blood on the Tracks is a damn fine album

I did four or five summers in a whisky distillery. I learnt a lot about whisky, obvs, also what is really 'the angels' share', why a low-loader's rear light is always clean, where to 'slap' a rolling cask to change its direction...

That I didn’t want to work in a hot windowless factory but that others have to

I should of gotten my tits out on only fans! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I worked in a hotel reception and typed a menu one day including Rataville as a side dish. Next day told it should have said Ratatouille, I had never heard of it (1977). If you don’t know what something says, always ask someone to help

Go back to Uni and don't leave till you have a degree!

“Summer job” 😂

BurgerKing will fire you for taking more than your lunch allowance 😂 I had the last laugh though, the IRA blew it up a few months later (Manchester).

Not to wear hats indoors

TartanPaint is very rare, so you have to do it the long way with oodles of masking tape. A LongWeight is hard to get too... best just to order it in.
