Georgia’s education board approves resolution that says the US and Georgia are not racist and students should not be taught that racism or slavery are anything but deviations from the country’s “authentic founding principles.”

One board member, who is Black, said the resolution encouraged people to be silent about any racism they’ve experienced.

The resolution is symbolic and does not impose restrictions on school districts or teachers, though it could lead to binding rules in the future. He said the statement “when I read it made me feel like I didn’t belong,” because it “excused” racism that he and his family have faced. There is little evidence that the theory is currently being taught to any of Georgia’s 1.7 million public school students.

I mean, the 3/5ths Compromise and continuation of slavery were an (immediate) deviation from the country’s founding principals that the Founders insisted on to preserve their wealth, so in a sense they are not wrong, I guess.

Kids don’t pay attention in school anyway. The real education comes in college or in life as an adult

It was commerce over morality. As a Christian country we knew better and did it anyway. America creates problems because we compromise our values to support the economic gains of a few at a cost to the many. We need to start walking our talk as we come off as hypocrites.

Pitifulness is a political party platform for the GOP. Imagine being so pathetic that history scares you, so you have to hide it.

wtf? deviations? The literal foundation was built using slave labor by the founding “fathers”. They all believed in it enough to own slaves. what’s the plan...Ignore it and don’t talk about it maybe it wont be a problem? Look around , racism is as real as rain.

So it's not a racist country? Tell that to the Native Americans that were nearly wiped out. Or black folks who went from slavery to mass incarceration. Or Hispanics who are having their kids taken away. Or Asians being assaulted & killed in hate crimes. 🙄

TRUE/REAL history is TOO PAINFUL for the masses!

If I was a teacher in the GA public school system, I'd resign & leave the state. If I had school age children in GA public schools, I'd pull them out & look for private schools as an option.

Thank God I don’t live in Georgia

Amazing really, given that slave ownership was a founding principal of this nation. Why else was there a civil war?

Well. They are deviations from the principles, but we have never lived up to them. And Georgia was key in Jackson’s trail of tears when land was stolen from the rightful Indian owners.

Saying it won't make it so

Born and raised in Georgia. Black teachers will tell the truth.

So from the countries founding to 1865 slavery was a thing, and racism is a factor today that existed before we were founded. If that is just a deviation from founding principles either fix the deviation already or we have to question the founding principles.

What A Crock!

Georgia? Georgia not racist? Georgia is not racist when their state legislature does everything possible to exclude brown & black communities from voting--in the name of so-called 'Election Integrity?' Come on, Georgia. Just how stupid do you think the rest of us are?

When I started realizing the history I learned was wrong. It made me a empathic liberal.

If there were women on that school board, they shouldn't have gotten a vote because 'authentic founding principles' and all.

This is why Georgia is ranked 34th in education. Any decent teacher would ignore that racist resolution and teach the truth. History doesn’t lie, even if the GOP does.

Because they want to hide their racism

Incredible, what the guilty won't do to hide their sins! Racism is a continual history within the US, why hide it from the textbooks?

That’s such BS!

Seriously? You can’t wipe away history. Northerners have to keep saving southerners from themselves 🤦

Notice how they want to preserve the “history“ of their treasonous, insurrectionist, loser attack on their own country. lol

On one side we have... Conservatives that can't see racism even if it slapped them in the face And on the other side, we have... Liberals who believe we can't accomplish anything without their help

Slippery slope

The gaslighting continues.

Also, ghosts are real, dinosaurs are fake, Covid is a hoax and anyone can make it in America! We call it Delusional Thinking 101.

They condemn the truth and support a lie! What does that make them? Liars! How will History remember them as? The problem that created racism and the lies they hid behind to perpetuate their racism! Much love

A resolution will not erase racism by your stroke of a pen. Not easy to whitewash the truth because there always will be those intelligent people who can think for themselves and know better then to fall for false narratives.

I recall there is this 'authentic' document from the founding fathers that states people of a certain race are only to be counted as 3/5's of a person. No racism shown here, right?

Insanity.

Tone deaf gas lighting

It seems a bit ironic that members of the education board are so uneducated.

The Republicans are literally trying to whitewash history and remove slavery from history books. This is an extremely dangerous precedence folks. This should be warning for all of us at the lengths people will go to remove what they don't like from being taught to our future.

The racists are afraid of having it publicly confirmed they are racists.

Yeah, like this will end the discussion.

I lived in Ga all my life I'm white and I can tell you remembering growing up there damn sure are racists in Ga alot in fact. The kids needs to learn history of the past and if that's to uncomfortable for some teachers find another job. It's not ok for some people to know some
