Experts say a focus on minority groups in education would give us a better knowledge of our society.

If you think we live in an open-minded, sex-positive society now, just wait until you hear what may have been going on down the Yorkshire mines in the 1950s.

Justin Bengry, lecturer in queer history at Goldsmiths University of London, says it's important to present LGBT history as "being part of the ordinary fabric of modern - and not so modern - life." "They were concerned that all of these innocent-minded women who would never have considered the possibility of any kind of erotic activity between women would now have it suggested to them and would now have opened up to them," says professor Bengry.

"As long as their shenanigans at work didn't disrupt the family, as long as they didn't leave their wives, as long as they didn't leave their children hungry, this could be accommodated within normal heterosexuality in the north in the mid-20th century.""Gender bender, cis-tem offender," rapped Bimini Bon Boulash in the 2021 season of RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

it probably wasn’t taught because it was... illegal?

We learned almost none of it, and what we did learn came from extra curriculum activities, that people could not control...

'Plus, there's Section 28, a ban by the Conservative government in the 80s against any LGBT teaching taking place in schools' good to know you've put the entire reasoning a) right at the bottom and b) called it 'in the 80s' despite it lasting til 2003

The “GC” Cultists, that you often platform at the BBC, openly want to erase LGBTQ+ people from history.

We didn't learn anything because of Section 28 which you just so conventially put at the end of your article. You could've actually properly covered that because THAT is the reason why we 'probably didn't learn' LBGTQIA+ history in school.

‘PROBABLY’

If your Gay or whatever you want to be,so be it... We are too prejudice in this country very backwards, well we have a monarchy so that's how backwards we are. We need to learn to tolerate others of creed gender sexuality etc. That's difficult for some people.. Very Sad...

We didn't learn it in school because the Conservatives banned the teaching of it, so we didn't even have the words to describe what we are to ourselves, much less anyone else. It wrecked lives. People in their 40s, 50s, 60s are still coming out now. TEACH US THAT BIT OF HISTORY

The most I ever heard in school(the 90's, 🇨🇦) was a few sentences about gays and lesbians.

Can you illustrate how BBC tried to fight this or represent gay issues? You know like C4 did in the 80s? No? Sit down

What a ridiculous thing to write... remember section 28 LGBTQPrideMonth

'PROBABLY'...!?!?! It was illegal when I was a boy...!!! ...then, in the '80s, the Tories made teaching about it illegal through Section28... David Cameron wanted to keep it illegal...!!! Pride TransRightsAreHumanRights

The Conservative party stopped most people learning about it in school.

We were not taught any LGBTQ history in school

what do you mean probably

Yeah, they were actual reasons for that, thanks to the Tories.

C'mon do better. Your supposedly a state broadcaster. You know full well decades of people weren't taught about LGBT history or anything LGBT because it was illegal. There's no probably about it.

Thank fuck for that.

POV:You followed me becuz LBGTQ+ doesn’t need a month😈🥶👾

✌️🏳️‍🌈

Did we learn about catholic priests having sex with under age boys ,know we didn’t so should we.

Good idea let's teach all children to be gay so the human race dies out. The way things are going the world will be better off without us anyway 😂😂

A whole month of this nonsense, I though we’d just had a month of it, yet good causes and charities just get a “day” of recognition, the country’s lost all sense of reality.

Didnt learn at school and TBH dont care.

When is heterosexual month ?

Sod off.

What about all the people that were killed or died by themselves for revealing there true identity, this is for university not secondary schools

Maybe lessons in moral standards may be in order

Reading some of the tweets on this link just goes to show exact why there’s a GayPrideMonth in the first place!Absolutely no idea on the history of it & why it was started in the first place🤦🏻‍♀️& why education is needed into LGBT it’s not about sex or orgys,it’s about equality🌈

Oh no, anyway

Shouldn't be learning this in school in the first place.

Is this codswallop actually news ?

Thank God they don’t teach this at school.

Loony BBC nightshift in peak SJW mode.

At school I was taught about lots of different people and their various achievements/infamys - not so much their sex lives. What is the motivation behind the people pushing this stuff? It is creepy.

My first experience happens to be a failure but i never gave up cause i knew it was going to work out for me trying continuously, fortunately i'm smiling today by getting involved with AmeliaMaveric

I have a 'so what' attitude towards this sort of stuff. Yep, most people are straight but some are gay or bi. Yes, there are people who are black, white, brown etc. Yes, there are two sexes. So what? And yes, discrimination should be unlawful + punished.
