The death of children grieves us more intensely precisely because the possibilities of being are cut short; “not-being” has arrived too soon. Ancient pagan cultures already knew that. Certainly every religious culture knows that. And most certainly the Catholic priests of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, who operated the Kamloops school for most of its existence, knew that. All the more shame then belongs to those who consigned the little ones to unmarked graves. It was a monumental dereliction of basic human, to say nothing of Christian, duty.
Can this horror not be found at almost every Indian school, it has to be investigated and the Catholic Church has to hand over all records
